~You Can't Quit The Squid~

You should make something to make the difficulty escalate, because once you kinda memorize how the level loops, it gets really easy. I had 3843 points and a 165x combo and I had to give up because nothing seemed to change since I've started 10 minutes ago.

One thing I'd suggest to make the game harder as you progress would be the buster cauge decrease at a certain rate, with the rate getting bigger as time goes on.

I saw this and immediately thought of Downwell, too! XD
I hope you get that bug squashed soon.

Gahh! Make this available to download

I've been wrestling with a bug for a while now - I think I'll have to start over with development and clean it up :0

Hopefully it'll be soon, but I have a few other things on my plate! But I <3 upsquid and will definitely get back to it!

I'm sorry to hear that! I know how annoying that can be. D:

take my money

This is so a reverse down well. but I don't care: it's quite good.

I wish literally going to say that.

reverse down well done well :D

This is Downwell.

This is game is amazing, and probably the perfect blend and balances of tension, difficulty, control, simplicity, and wonder that I have had from a game in a long time. An honestly incredibly refreshing game. Please keep creating good, well-balanced games.

This was an enjoyable game. I especially like the art style. (The ability to select different color schemes was a nice touch.) The controls are a bit difficult to get used to but that works in the game's favor. All in all, well done!

I really like this game.. OUO It's simplistic and easy to pick up and play, yet very challenging to master. I don't have much to say except maybe you could try adding some bosses to get past after the player gets to a certain point in the game. The squid could probably hit the boss in its weakspots as it stands still and doesn't attack the squid, only letting it pass after he's defeated. The boss could also drop some snacks too, heh..

Sorry about all the rambling, it's just a weird idea I had.. >w< Other than the game being slightly boring due to the lack of different game elements, this game is really cool and I can't wait to see what else you do with it.. :D

So i played this for quite awhile longer than i had expected too, this is my highest score

I have to say the game is really really fun for what it is, it will work beautiful on touch screen devices, although the game is lacking variety, i found myself going through the same parts of map over and over, it also needs some kind of enemy(s) or power-ups just.. it needs more, do more with this okay, its bloody fantastic. Ill be following this one closely, awaiting the games fix so i can purchase this and play it non stop on my desktop.

Keep up the good work!

This game is REALLY good and would work very well on phones. Excellent control design. As a small critique, I think it would be a lot better if it got harder, faster (like with spikes on the roof for example). Great work. After about 8 minutes of play, I found myself in a very long play session and my attention wandered. I lost the intensity that roguelikes tend to have. If you continue to work on this game, varied levels with different game mechanics introduced would be a huge plus. Great work. You should be very happy with this design.

I love this opposite version of Downwell, but my controls stick and are not responsive.

Ooohhh, game options!

That tutorial is cute, but I wish I could control/perform stuff as I learn it.

Also adjusting turning speed seems a weird option that makes me greedy: what about making use of the down button while playing and holding it to toggle between two turning speeds (slow/precise when held, fast/normal when released).

Looking forward to getting the windows version.

another option that I'd like to see: being able to reset the difficulty after a "game over" without having to refresh the page again

You're welcome, I'm happy to help \ :D /

good luck getting it to work!

(lol I just figured out you can also control the squid with the mouse buttons)

Just purchased this but it won't load keeps saying could not load module lime@lime_application_create_prime

Hopefully you can fix this.

Hey Jonbagz! I am working now to try and find the cause of this! I'll reply again once it's fixed! Sorry for the trouble :)

I recently beat Downwell so naturally I had to give this a shot! It's a cute homage, I like how you used the 3-color palette.

If I had to make a criticism (which hopefully will help because it sounds like you're developing it further!) I felt like I got the hang of it really quickly and difficult wasn't really increasing when I set my high score about 1200m. Are you going to give it different levels and a boss like Downwell? :)

I'm really split on adding bosses. Adding increasing difficulty is definitely something I'll be doing soon, and I have some ideas for bosses/endgame, but I also think the endless nature suits Upsquid. Either way, thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback :D

I write game critique pieces on my website every once in a while. I'm thinking if I have time soon I might compare this to Downwell to write about what makes roguelikes fun. I'll let you know :)

Sounds awesome! I look forward to it!
